I've been an artist for as long as I can remember. Mom tells me I was drawing on my sheets as soon I was able to hold a pen(good thing the "Sharpie"
had not yet been invented! As a kid, I'd spend hours sitting at the table drawing...or on canvas painting. In 1984, I borrowed a camera and thought I'd try my hand at photography.
I was hooked...and found quickly that I had a natural talent for capturing compelling images on film. I bought my first SLR...a Nikon FE2...then an F3.
With over 20 years of
experience behind the camera, I bring a breadth of skill and knowledge to the table in serving my clients. I have a great passion for capturing images in black and white...and though
I shoot and appreciate color images, there is a part of me that would not be disappointed if I never shot color again(don't take that too literally!).
Being very much a kid at heart, I generally connect quickly with the "little folks" I work with...and have the ability to put the "big folks" at ease during a photo shoot. Portaits are
very much about creating and capturing moments that are normally overlooked by the non-photo-person. I've been greatly influenced by my limited(and growing) experiences in the mission field.
The need for shooting "from the heart" while serving in a third world country has overflowed into how I practice my photography on a regular basis. Please see my
blog (www.marklewisphoto.blogspot.com) for more info about what I call "Compassion" projects.
